Project to enhance the Vicereal Walls of the Bastione di Parsano in Sorrento

The Bastione di Parsano represents a precious testimony of the ancient viceregal walls, dating back to the 16th century, that once protected the heart of Sorrento and, with the adjacent Porta di Parsano, constitutes an important access point to the historical centre of the city known for its flourishing tourism.
The project sets as its objective the valorisation and re-functionalisation of the Bastion, through three main intervention strategies: the connection with nearby tourist routes and with the existing infrastructure, the development of a new use as a museum centre to promote knowledge of the historical heritage of the fortifications of Sorrento and the province of Naples, and the enhancement of the city’s cultural and artistic offer thanks to the synergy with local realities, in particular the nearby Sorrento Foundation.
Various measures are therefore planned to promote accessibility through the removal of architectural barriers and the restoration of the existing lifts, the development of an experiential and flexible museum tour, the preparation of an innovative communication apparatus, and the fitting out of the suggestive terraces on the first floor to make the Bastion a centre of aggregation not only for tourism but also for the resident community through the possibility of hosting private events and temporary exhibitions.
